Send money to Malaysia from Canada
An invoice corridor with a family corridor inside it
Most of the money moving from Canada to Malaysia is commercial. Importers and small manufacturers in Vancouver, Richmond, Mississauga and Calgary buy from suppliers in Penang, Shah Alam, Johor Bahru and Klang, and those suppliers invoice in ringgit with payment terms attached. Electronics and test work, components, furniture, packaging, contract assembly. The payment is a business obligation with a date on it, not a gesture.
Around that sits a smaller, steadier flow. Malaysian families in Toronto and the Lower Mainland sending to parents in Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh or Kuching. Canadian parents covering fees and rent for a student at a branch campus in Selangor. Retirees dividing the year between Canada and Penang, keeping a Malaysian account topped up for the months they are there.
Both use the same two payout routes. A ringgit credit into a Malaysian bank account, or a ringgit credit into an e-wallet, and you choose which on the day.

What sending ringgit costs
On supplier payments the rate does most of the damage, because the amounts are larger and the payments repeat with every purchase order. A margin buried in the rate is invisible on an invoice and never appears as a line item anywhere.
The way to compare providers here is to price a single realistic order through each of them and look only at the ringgit the supplier would receive. A quoted fee of zero tells you almost nothing on a corridor where payments run into the thousands.

How the ringgit rate is set

The rate on the confirmation screen is the rate applied, fixed at the moment you confirm. It does not move while the transfer settles into the Malaysian account.
That matters when a supplier's invoice is denominated in ringgit and your costing is not. You can see the exact ringgit going out against what it takes from your balance, on the same screen, before the payment exists.
