Send money from Canada to India
Who is actually sending money along this corridor
India is the destination that shaped remittance habits in this country, and the corridor is not abstract. It runs through Brampton and Surrey, through Abbotsford and Scarborough, through the Malayali nursing staff in Mississauga hospitals and the Punjabi trucking and trades firms around Calgary and Edmonton. Most people using it are not sending once. They send on a schedule that somebody in Punjab, Kerala, Gujarat or Tamil Nadu has already budgeted around.
What gets paid is usually four things running at the same time: a parent's household in Jalandhar, a home loan instalment on a flat in Mohali, a semester of college fees in Coimbatore, and the attendant who sits with a grandparent in Amritsar. Different amounts, different dates, and none of them forgiving of a surprise.
Grey pays into the details your family already recognizes. An account number with its IFSC code, or a UPI ID they read off a phone. The rupees arrive as an ordinary credit, and nobody at the other end signs up for anything.

What a transfer to India costs
Indian remittance pricing is crowded and most of it is advertised on the fee alone. A service can charge nothing visible and still hand over fewer rupees than one that charges openly, because the difference has been taken in the rate instead. Read the rupee total, not the headline.
There is also no domestic habit to fall back on here. Interac e-Transfer, the thing every Canadian reaches for first, does not cross a border, so your honest points of comparison are a bank wire or a remittance agent. In both cases the question is what lands in India, not what the sending side quoted you.

How the fixed rate works, balance to rupees

Grey shows the rate before you confirm and holds it once you do. The rupee figure you approved is the rupee figure that arrives. There is no recalculation afterwards and no adjustment later in the day if the market has moved.
On a corridor where most transfers repeat, that matters more than it would on a one-off. If you cover a parent's household in Jalandhar on the same date every month, you are comparing one known rate against last month's known rate rather than guessing at an average.

Open the account, put money into a balance, and pay an IFSC-routed account or a UPI ID. Most people manage the first two in an evening and the third the same week.
