Send money to Chile from Canada
Two Canadas send money to Chile
The older half of this corridor dates to the mid-1970s, when Canada took in a large number of Chileans who left after the coup. Those families settled mainly in Toronto, and two generations on the ties have not gone: a parent still in Santiago or Valparaiso, a share of a family property, a cousin's medical costs, a funeral to help pay for.
The newer half is work. Canadian mining companies are heavily invested in Chile, and the engineering, geology, environmental and legal services that follow them are run out of Vancouver and Toronto. That produces a steady flow of peso payments to contractors, field staff and professional firms in Santiago, Antofagasta and Concepcion, on invoices that are written in pesos and expected to be paid in pesos.
Both sides use the same route. You hold US dollars, provided by Lead Bank, pounds or euro on Grey, funded by money arriving from a client, an employer or a transfer of your own, and convert into pesos when the payment is due.

What sending pesos costs
The usual failure on this corridor is not overcharging, it is misdirection. Ask a bank to send Chilean pesos and you are often told to send US dollars and let the recipient sort it out. That moves the conversion, and the cost of it, to the person in Santiago, who has no say in the rate and finds out what they got only after it lands.
Grey quotes Canada to Chile into pesos directly. One conversion, on your side, priced in front of you, and a peso credit at the other end that matches what the invoice or the family agreed.

Why the peso figure does not move after you confirm

The rate on screen when you confirm is the rate applied to the transfer. Nothing is recalculated while the money settles.
That matters where the amount was negotiated. A contractor in Antofagasta quoting a peso figure for a month of work, or a clinic in Santiago quoting for a procedure, needs the exact number. You can confirm it in Vancouver and it is still the number on the Chilean statement.
