Send money to Tanzania from Qatar
Wallet or bank account, the recipient decides
Tanzania is one of the few routes out of Doha where the person receiving genuinely has a choice, and where the choice changes what happens to the money. A wallet credit is drawn down in pieces through the week. A bank credit at CRDB or NMB tends to sit until something larger is paid out of it. Grey pays shillings into either, at the same rate, from the same balance.
The senders are the Tanzanians working across Qatar: security teams on twelve hour rotations, hotel and catering staff in West Bay and Msheireb, facilities and cleaning crews on the big compounds, drivers, and a steadily growing number of nurses and technicians on skilled contracts. A lot of them live in the Industrial Area or Al Wakrah and send on the same few days each month.
What you need from Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Mwanza or Zanzibar is one of two things and never both. Either the mobile number registered to the wallet, or the bank name and account number. Nothing else is asked for at their end.

Where the money actually goes on this route
Grey separates the conversion rate from the transfer fee and puts the shilling total the wallet or the account will receive on screen before you approve. Nothing is recalculated afterwards.
The comparison worth making from Doha is not against another app but against the exchange house on the corner of the compound. The counter rate looks fine on the board. What it does not show is the spread inside it, and you only find out by asking the person in Dar es Salaam what reached them. Do that once with both routes and the question settles itself.

Holding the shilling amount still

Shillings arriving in Tanzania are usually spent against a figure somebody has already named. School fees at a set amount. A supplier who quoted for stock. Rent that does not negotiate.
Once you confirm in Qatar the rate is locked and the TZS total credited to the wallet or the CRDB or NMB account is the total you were shown. The riyal being pegged to the dollar keeps the headline rate on this pair steady, which is useful, but it is the margin underneath that decides the shillings. That is the number Grey shows you.

Half the country is paid through a wallet and half through a bank, and a transfer from Qatar that only serves one of them is only half a service.
