Send money to Greece from Kuwait
The Greeks working in Kuwait
Greece exports marine and mechanical engineering talent the way other countries export labour, and the Gulf has absorbed a steady trickle of it for decades. A propulsion engineer who came off ships into a shore role in Kuwait. A maintenance supervisor on an aviation contract who goes home twice a year. A quantity surveyor on a long build who has not lived in Greece since he was twenty six but still pays into a house there.
The money is going into a country where wages are considerably lower than the ones being earned in Kuwait, which makes this corridor look more like family support than the other European routes here. Parents on a pension in Thessaloniki, a sibling between jobs in Patras, a share of running costs on a family property that everybody uses in August and nobody pays for in February.
Grey pays into a Greek IBAN. Enter it and the euro reaches National Bank of Greece, Piraeus Bank or Alpha Bank over SEPA, typically within minutes from a funded balance. Greece is in the eurozone, so what leaves as euro arrives as euro, with nothing converted a second time.

What it costs to send euro to Greece
Because a lot of this corridor is supporting people rather than paying institutions, the margin lands somewhere specific. It comes out of a household budget in Greece rather than out of a business account, and the person it comes out of has no way of knowing it happened.
The dinar makes it less visible still. It is the highest valued currency unit in the world, so the spread is expressed in units that flatten it, and it only regains its real size once it is euro. Grey shows the fee and the rate separately and puts the euro figure on screen before you agree to anything.

The rate, and why it is fixed at confirmation

Your balance in US dollars provided by Lead Bank, pounds or euro converts once into euro and goes. The dinar never enters it. Greece being in the eurozone, there is no arrival side conversion for a Greek bank to apply its own rate to.
The rate shown at the moment you confirm is the one used, and it does not move afterwards. For anyone sending a set amount every month, that is the difference between a household in Greece being able to plan and being told each month what turned up.
A steady looking dinar rate is not evidence of a tight spread, because the dinar is managed against a dollar weighted basket rather than pegged. The headline can hold still while the margin behind it does not.

Why Greeks in Kuwait use Grey
If the money is holding up a household in Greece, the rate is not an abstraction. It is the difference between the amount they were expecting and a slightly smaller one, every month, with no explanation attached to it.
