Send money abroad from Ireland
Roughly a fifth of people living in Ireland were born somewhere else, and the country has two quite different senders because of it. One is a worker or professional sending money home, to Poland, Romania, Brazil, India, the Philippines, Nigeria, Lithuania or Latvia, and often from Drogheda, Dundalk, Ennis, Athlone, Letterkenny or Cork rather than only from Dublin. The other is an Irish household or business paying outward: a property on the continent, a son or daughter who emigrated, a supplier, or a contractor working for one of the multinationals.
The mechanism is the same for both. Your Grey balance holds euro. You top it up by SEPA transfer from an Irish current account, it sits in euro while it waits, and it converts once at the moment you send. The rate and the fee both appear before you confirm, and the rate is fixed at confirmation. Your recipient needs no Grey account; what reaches them is an ordinary credit into their own bank, or a mobile money credit where the destination works that way.
Seven destinations work differently, and a hub page should say so before its corridor pages do. Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Romania, Czechia, Hungary and Bulgaria receive a euro credit into the recipient's local IBAN through SEPA. Grey does not convert to zloty, krona, krone, leu, koruna or forint, so the recipient's own bank converts if they want local currency. Poland and Romania are two of the largest communities in the country, which makes that a headline rather than a footnote here. Bulgaria joined the euro on 1 January 2026, so there the euro credit is simply the ordinary arrangement.
Grey serves more than 80 countries in total. Alongside the euro balance you can hold US dollars, provided by Lead Bank, and pounds, spend from a virtual Mastercard, and move money to another Grey user by GreyTag free and instantly. Transfers are encrypted and trackable from the moment you confirm until the money settles.

What it costs to send money out of Ireland
The rate you are shown at confirmation is the rate applied. It does not move afterwards, and the amount your recipient receives is not an estimate that settles into something else later in the day.
For the twenty one eurozone destinations there is no conversion at all, so there is nothing to compare on the rate. Euro leaves your balance and euro arrives in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal or any of the others. The fee is the whole of the cost.
For Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Romania, Czechia, Hungary and Bulgaria there is a second cost Grey cannot show you, because it is not Grey's to set. The euro credit arrives intact. If your recipient wants zloty, krona or leu, their own bank decides the spread on that conversion. Ask them what their bank charges before deciding this is the right route, particularly if the money has to land as an exact local figure on a fixed date.

What else a Grey account does from Ireland
Grey serves more than 80 countries, so the fifty seven destinations written from Ireland are part of the network rather than the whole of it. The same account, the same balance and the same identity check cover all of them.
The account is not only a way to send. You can hold more than one currency in it, spend from a virtual Mastercard, and move money to another Grey user by GreyTag without a fee and without a wait.
