Send money from Ireland to Uganda
Mobile money only, and that is usually the good news
Say it plainly at the start so nobody wastes an evening looking for a field that is not there. Grey delivers to MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money in Ugandan shillings. There is no bank account payout on this route from Ireland. What you need is a registered mobile number on one of those two networks, not an account number or a branch.
For most households that is simpler rather than harder. A wallet is the account people in Uganda actually use, it is with them wherever they are, and money in it can be spent, saved or cashed out without anyone travelling to a town with a branch in it. Shillings sent from a funded Grey balance typically arrive within minutes, and the recipient needs no Grey account of their own.
The Irish end of this corridor is smaller than the Nigerian or Kenyan one but it is a consistent group: nurses and care assistants recruited into hospitals and nursing homes here, students and their families, and the long tail of Irish missionary, medical and development links with Kampala, Jinja and the west that go back decades and still move money both ways.

What a euro to shilling transfer costs
Because the shilling trades in large numbers, a small percentage difference in the rate turns into a shilling figure a household notices immediately. That is why the fee alone is a poor way to compare providers on this corridor. The number to compare is the shillings that appear in the wallet, on the amount you actually send, not on a round figure in an advertisement.
It matters more again when the transfer repeats. A monthly amount to the same number, sent for years, turns a rate difference nobody could see on a single transfer into something worth several months of the payment itself.

The shilling amount is fixed at confirmation

Grey shows the euro to shilling rate before you confirm and fixes it at that point. The shilling total on the screen is the shilling total credited to the wallet.
When somebody is waiting on school fees or a clinic bill, the amount having been agreed in advance is what lets them plan around it rather than wait to see what turned up.

The reason this corridor works without a bank is that the bank was never the centre of it. Money in Uganda moves by phone, between people who are not near a branch and were never going to be, and a transfer from Ireland should arrive in the same place everything else does.
