How Dutch senders reach Uruguay
Start from the recipient's side. Someone in Montevideo needs a fixed sum in Uruguayan pesos by a fixed date, and they bank with BROU or another local bank. Spain and Italy have deep ties with Uruguay, and European firms pay Montevideo developers.
Grey works backwards from that: enter the UYU figure, see the EUR cost from Amsterdam, and send. The rate holds.
How sending to Uruguay works

One passport or residence permit and a few minutes is all it takes to open Grey in Amsterdam. Grey works with regulated partners in the EU.
Fund
Move euros in by SEPA or iDEAL transfer from any Dutch bank from ING, ABN AMRO, Rabobank, bunq or any Dutch bank. Or send from USD, EUR or GBP you already hold on Grey.
Send
Uruguay takes a bank name and account number, plus the recipient's cédula for some banks. Confirm the UYU figure and send from Amsterdam.
Two numbers, both shown first
With Grey, a sender in Amsterdam sees three numbers before confirming: the EUR debited, the fee, and the UYU that reaches Montevideo. None of them change afterwards.

UYU amount held from send to settlement

Enter the UYU amount first if the recipient's figure is what matters. Grey shows the EUR cost from Amsterdam and locks it.
The person at BROU sees exactly the sum you agreed.

The corridor most banks won't touch
Between Amsterdam and Montevideo, the problem is well known. When a bank can't quote a currency, it tells you to send dollars. The person in Montevideo then pays their bank's spread and a receiving fee, and you never know what they actually got. From Amsterdam, Grey does the conversion transparently and delivers UYU as a domestic credit at BROU or any other bank.
UYU into the account, nothing else
The UYU posts directly to the recipient's own account at any Uruguayan bank, including Banco República, Santander Uruguay, Itaú Uruguay, Scotiabank Uruguay. To them it looks like a domestic credit. The sender in Rotterdam sees it settle in the app.

Works with every Uruguayan bank
From BROU to the smallest regional lender.

Looks local to them
A UYU deposit on their statement, nothing more.

Grey optional on their side
Unless they want GreyTag, which is instant and free.
Topping up in Amsterdam
Most Dutch senders top up in euros and convert to UYU on the day. Dutch senders fund by SEPA or iDEAL from ING, ABN AMRO, Rabobank or bunq. The euro balance waits on Grey until the transfer is due.
Local rail
Fund by SEPA or iDEAL transfer from any Dutch bank.
Business income
Revenue in euros or dollars funds the next payment to Montevideo.
Existing balance
Already funded? Convert to UYU and send in the same session.
For a Dutch sender, being able to convert to UYU at the exact moment you choose is worth more than any fee saving.
