How German senders reach Cameroon
Start from the recipient's side. Someone in Douala needs a fixed sum in Central African CFA francs by a fixed date, and they bank with Afriland First Bank or another local bank. The Cameroonian diaspora in Europe is large, especially in France, Germany and Belgium. Transfers home are steady and long-running.
Grey works backwards from that: enter the XAF figure, see the EUR cost from Berlin, and send. The rate holds.
How sending to Cameroon works

One passport or Aufenthaltstitel and a few minutes is all it takes to open Grey in Berlin. Grey works with regulated partners in the EU.
Fund
Move euros in by SEPA transfer from any German bank from Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, Sparkasse, N26 or any German bank. Or send from USD, EUR or GBP you already hold on Grey.
Send
Cameroon needs the recipient's bank, branch and account number, which together form their RIB. Enter it, confirm the XAF amount, and send.
Two numbers, both shown first
With Grey, a sender in Berlin sees three numbers before confirming: the EUR debited, the fee, and the XAF that reaches Douala. None of them change afterwards.

XAF amount held from send to settlement

Enter the XAF amount first if the recipient's figure is what matters. Grey shows the EUR cost from Berlin and locks it.
The person at Afriland First Bank sees exactly the sum you agreed.

The corridor most banks won't touch
Between Berlin and Douala, the problem is well known. Formal transfers to Cameroon have historically been so expensive that people carried cash instead. A transparent rate makes the formal route worth using. From Berlin, Grey does the conversion transparently and delivers XAF as a domestic credit at Afriland First Bank or any other bank.
On the receiving side
The XAF posts directly to the recipient's own account at any Cameroonian bank, including Afriland First Bank, UBA Cameroon, Ecobank Cameroon, Société Générale Cameroun. To them it looks like a domestic credit. The sender in Frankfurt sees it settle in the app.

Works with every Cameroonian bank
From Afriland First Bank to the smallest regional lender.

Looks local to them
A XAF deposit on their statement, nothing more.

Grey optional on their side
Unless they want GreyTag, which is instant and free.
Topping up in Berlin
German senders fund by SEPA from Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, Sparkasse or N26. The euro balance sits on Grey until a payment is due. Then Douala is a conversion and a tap.
From Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, Sparkasse, N26 or any German bank
euros credited in minutes.
From abroad
USD, EUR or GBP straight to XAF.
From Grey
GreyTag balances are ready to send to Cameroon immediately.
For a German sender, being able to convert to XAF at the exact moment you choose is worth more than any fee saving.

Seen from Berlin, the corridor looks like this. The Cameroonian diaspora in Europe is large, especially in France, Germany and Belgium. Transfers home are steady and long-running. From Berlin, the money tends to go to specific bills with specific due dates.
