Send money from Australia to Argentina
Lithium, family and a long way between them
Two quite different groups use this corridor. One is commercial: Australian miners and explorers have lithium and other projects in the north-west of Argentina, in Salta, Jujuy and Catamarca, and they pay Argentine engineers, drillers, surveyors and suppliers who bill in pesos. The other is personal: an established Argentine community in Sydney and Melbourne, joined each year by young Argentines on work and holiday visas, many of them used to keeping savings in US dollars, as Argentines often do.
Grey holds no Australian dollar balance, and this page will not pretend otherwise. You hold US dollars provided by Lead Bank, pounds or euro, filled by a client, an employer abroad or a transfer from an account you keep overseas, and convert once into Argentine pesos when you send.
The pesos go into the recipient's own account, identified by its CBU or CVU, and appear there as a local credit. Nobody in Argentina needs Grey to receive them.

Pricing pesos from the other side of the world
Grey quotes the conversion from your balance into Argentine pesos before you confirm, with the fee shown as its own line. The peso total under both is the amount the CBU or CVU account receives.
For a Perth firm paying a contractor in Salta, that total is the figure to match against the invoice. For an Argentine in Melbourne sending to a parent in Rosario, it is a number they can promise in advance and keep.

The rate is set when you tap confirm

The peso can shift noticeably within a single day. Grey fixes the rate the moment you confirm, so the Argentine peso amount you saw in Australia is the amount credited at Banco Nación or Galicia.
With Buenos Aires thirteen or fourteen hours behind the east coast, plenty of payments are confirmed while the recipient is asleep. Fixing the figure means nothing changes before they wake up.

Reasons to send pesos with Grey
On a currency like the peso, a transfer that is quoted in dollars and converted later is really a guess. The person in Argentina finds out what it was worth, and the sender in Australia rarely does.
