Send money to India from the United States
Send money to India, straight to any bank account or UPI ID
When you send money to India through Grey, every transfer goes directly into the recipient's bank account or UPI ID. SBI, HDFC, ICICI, Axis, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, Kotak Mahindra. Enter the account number and the money lands in INR. Or enter a UPI ID and it reaches your recipient through Google Pay, PhonePe, or Paytm, the same way a domestic Indian payment would.
There are no printouts, no agent visits, and no waiting days for a wire to clear. Your parents in Mumbai or your sister in Bangalore see the rupees in their banking app, typically within minutes of you hitting send. They do not need to download Grey or create an account.
The total cost of a transfer is the fee and the exchange rate together. Some services advertise zero fees but mark up the rate. On a $1,000 transfer, a 2% rate markup costs more than a $20 fee. Grey shows both numbers on the same screen before you tap Send.

How much does it cost to send money to India
Every transfer from the US to India involves two costs: the visible fee and the exchange rate margin. Most services hide their margin in the rate, so a transfer advertised as zero fees can quietly cost more than one with a transparent fee.
The exchange rate is usually the bigger factor on larger transfers. On a USD 1,000 transfer, a 1% rate difference changes the rupee amount your recipient receives by roughly 850 INR. A provider advertising no fee but applying a 2% rate markup costs more than one charging USD 5 with a rate close to the mid-market.
Grey shows the fee and the exchange rate separately before you tap Send. The rupees amount your recipient will receive is on screen before you confirm. The rate shown is the rate applied. There are no adjustments after the fact.

How exchange rates work: USD to INR

The USD to INR exchange rate determines more of the final rupee amount than the fee does. On a USD 1,000 transfer, a 1% difference in the rate changes what your recipient receives by roughly 850 INR. That is not a rounding error. On recurring transfers, it compounds.
Grey shows you the live USD to INR rate before you confirm. The rate displayed is the rate applied. You see the exact INR amount landing in your recipient's account before you tap Send, not after.
Some providers advertise the mid-market rate but charge a visible fee on top. Others advertise zero fees but embed a 1-3% rate markup, which on a USD 1,000 transfer costs more than a USD 10 fee would. Grey separates both so you can compare the actual total, not just one line of it.

How fast is each provider?
Grey and Remitly Express both deliver to Indian bank accounts and UPI IDs within minutes from a funded balance. Wise typically settles in 1-2 business days. Western Union offers fast delivery through agents but at a higher combined cost. Bank wires are the slowest and most expensive option for most transfer amounts.
