Send money to Ghana from the United States
Send money to Ghana, straight to mobile money or any bank account
When you send money to Ghana through Grey, the transfer goes directly to your recipient's MTN Mobile Money, Vodafone Cash, or AirtelTigo wallet, or into their bank account in cedis. Enter the mobile number or account details, confirm the rate and fee, and send.
Your recipient does not need a Grey account. Mobile money delivery is fast and arrives directly to their wallet. Bank transfers land in their account the same way any domestic Ghanaian transfer would. Neither requires a branch visit or a pickup agent.
The total cost of a transfer is the fee and the exchange rate together. Some services advertise zero fees but mark up the rate. On a $1,000 transfer, a 2% rate markup costs more than a $20 fee. Grey shows both numbers on the same screen before you tap Send.

How much does it cost to send money to Ghana
Every transfer from the US to Ghana involves two costs: the visible fee and the exchange rate margin. Most services hide their margin in the rate, so a transfer advertised as zero fees can quietly cost more than one with a transparent fee.
The exchange rate is usually the bigger factor on larger transfers. On a USD 500 transfer, a 1% rate difference changes the cedi amount your recipient receives by roughly 77 GHS. A provider advertising no fee but applying a 2% rate markup costs more than one charging USD 5 with a rate close to the mid-market.
Grey shows the fee and the exchange rate separately before you tap Send. The cedis amount your recipient will receive is on screen before you confirm. The rate shown is the rate applied. There are no adjustments after the fact.

How exchange rates work: USD to GHS

The USD to GHS exchange rate determines how many cedis your recipient receives. On a USD 300 transfer, a 1% difference in the rate changes the cedi amount significantly. Ghana has seen notable cedi volatility in recent years, which makes rate transparency especially important on this corridor.
Grey shows the live USD to GHS rate before you confirm. The rate on screen is the rate applied. No adjustment after you send.
Grey charges a 1% conversion fee, uncapped, and a flat withdrawal fee of $1.00 for mobile money or $1.20 for bank transfer. Both are shown alongside the exchange rate before you commit.

How fast is each provider?
Grey delivers to Ghanaian mobile wallets and bank accounts within minutes from a funded balance. Wise typically settles in 1-2 business days. Western Union offers agent pickup but at a higher total cost. Bank wires are the most expensive option for most transfer amounts.
