Send money from Kenya to Uganda
A road corridor before it is a money corridor
Almost everything on this route follows the Northern Corridor. Cargo leaves Mombasa, passes Nairobi, Nakuru and Eldoret, and clears at Malaba or Busia, and payments move along the same line in the other direction: a driver needing funds at the border, an agent settling a clearing fee, a trader paying for maize or fish that is already loaded.
Around it sits the ordinary business of a shared border. Families split between Busia town on one side and Busia town on the other, students at Ugandan universities whose fees come from Kenya, patients sent to Nairobi hospitals whose bills are settled from Kampala.
For most Ugandan recipients the mobile wallet is the account. Grey pays Ugandan shillings straight into MTN Mobile Money or Airtel Money using the registered mobile number, so the money lands where school fees, fuel and the boda fare are already paid from. Nobody needs a bank account or a Grey account to receive it.

What this transfer really costs
Grey shows the rate applied to your shillings and the fee for the transfer before you agree to either. The Ugandan shilling figure is on the screen next to the Kenyan one, which also stops a mis-keyed amount getting through unnoticed.
Payout is in Ugandan shillings inside Uganda, so nothing is converted again and the wallet is credited with the amount you saw.

A fixed rate on a route you use often

The KES to UGX rate shown at confirmation is the rate applied, and it does not shift while the payment is settling.
That matters more here than it does on a long haul route, because this is the transfer you make three times a month. A predictable rate is the difference between knowing your cost per load and finding out at the end of the quarter.

Five reasons to use Grey on this border
Uganda is close enough that people still send money there by hand. Grey is on this corridor so that the Ugandan shillings reach the wallet faster than the bus would, for a rate that was written down before anyone agreed to anything.
