The euro (EUR) is the shared currency of most European Union countries, managed by the European Central Bank together with the national central banks of the eurozone. It entered electronic use in 1999, and euro notes and coins followed in 2002.
For senders in Europe, the euro is usually the starting currency: money earned or saved in euros, converted into a recipient's local currency abroad. Grey shows the mid-market EUR rate for each supported currency, the fees separately, and the exact local-currency amount your recipient receives.
